The Nerazzurri had targeted Europe as their primary objective when Jose Mourinho was hired in May, but consecutive defeats against Panathinaikos and Werder Bremen meant they only qualified in second place from their group.
“I am certain we will do well,” he told Sky Italia ahead of the December 19 draw for the knockout stage.
“To win the Champions League you have to face all the teams, including Barcelona, as Mourinho quite rightly said.”
Inter’s potential opponents are Barca, Manchester United, Liverpool, Porto and Bayern Munich.
“If we do draw the Spaniards, it won’t be a problem. It’s true they have Samuel Eto’o and Leo Messi, but we also have players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ivan Cordoba and Javier Zanetti.”
Ibra’s record in the Champions League has not always been particularly strong, but Muntari believes he is the favourite for next year’s Ballon d’Or.
“He is extraordinary, as every day he has something new to show you. He is certainly ready to earn this important recognition next year.”
Muntari started his Serie A career at Udinese as a teenager and returned to Italy after a spell at Portsmouth.
“I have to say I grew up in this country, I studied Italian football and am very happy with the form I am in at the moment.”】
