Maicon ruled out for Milan

It has been confirmed that Inter ace Douglas Maicon will miss the derby on Sunday and he may also skip the first date with Manchester United.

The Brazilian international had to pull out of training earlier today due to a muscular problem in his right thigh.

And Jose Mourinho faces a headache because Maicon won't be fit to face Milan in the Derby della Maddonina.

More will be known tomorrow about the extent of the talented right-back's injury, but he could be out for quite a long period.

There are suggestions that Maicon will even be forced to sit out Inter's Champions League last 16 first leg against Manchester United at San Siro on February 24.

Maicon's problems may have been exacerbated by the strain placed on him by playing in every Serie A game but one and also for Brazil against Italy on Tuesday evening.

Defensive starlet Davide Santon is likely to start in his place in the derby with Cristian Chivu on the left.

There had been fears that striker Adriano would miss out on facing Milan due to a niggling injury to his thigh.

But scans have given L'Imperatore the all clear and he now looks likely to start alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
