When the megastar brazil Ronaldinho is drawing worldwide attentions with his mesmerizing skills, his FC Barcelona teammate Argentina international Saviola is struggling to hold a substitute place in the European champion.

With huge expectations from their mother country Riquelme and Saviola moved to Barca where their common icon Diego got on his track to becoming the God of football and Argentina national hero. However, Riquelme’s Catalonia stay turned out to be an unhappy journey which he must want to forget most. He was criticized for his classical but slow football and was eventually replaced by Ronaldinho, while the promising Rabbit(Saviola’s nickname), though scored many times, does not fit into Dutchman Rijkaard’s football philosophy where central forward must be physical.

But that is not all. Argentina loses to its arch rival almost in every aspect.

No argentine succeeded in the annual contest for FIFA World Player since it was launched in 1990, while Romario，Rivaldo，Ronaldo and Ronaldinho received the prize 7 times in total. Likewise, in big names such as Inter, Barca, Milan, Real as well as Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Juventus brazil players plays more important role than argentine does. The last and also the most important, Brazil won World Cup 5 times, three times more than Argentina did.

It is no doubt that both countries are the biggest producer and exporter of football talents. But the duo ends with absolutely different results when their talents come to Europe. What is the reason?

More pressure in Argentina
It has been a number of years that Argentina was separated from an important trophy. The last World Cup victory can be traced back to 1986 when Diego Maradona, with his unparalleled genius and unique leadership, captained his team and beat Western Germany in the final. The country now is starving for a title and the whole nation are eagerly expecting the arrival of another Diego or footballing Savior. Those future star always are touted as Diego II, which conversely makes these teenagers live under big pressure and calls for their fast adaptation to European football. Maybe it is part of the reason that people see a serious-looking Riquelme on the pitch.

More popularity in Brazil
Just like Pablo Aimar, also seemed as a Diego successor in his first several years, said in an interview when asked to tell the footballing difference between Argentina and Brazil, “only kids play football in my country, while in Brazil even a cabman can play well”. He is right. Football enjoys huge popularity in Brazil and run in the blood vessels of every brazilian.
