Materazzi, Dacourt, Crespo And Burdisso Leaving Inter - Report
22/01/2009 10:46
The last few weeks of the January transfer window could prove significant for Inter as a number of players could be shipped out as coach Jose Mourinho proceeds to cut down his squad.
There were rumours in the Italian press on Wednesday suggesting Mourinho is desperate to trim the size of his squad. President Massimo Moratti backed his coach by declaring it would be the right thing to do.
Il Corriere Dello Sport claims the Nerazzurri are now ready to offload players considered to be deadwood; a number of second-string players are facing the chop from the unforgiving coach.
Things are looking decidedly bleak for Hernan Crespo, Marco Materazzi, Olivier Dacourt and Nicolas Burdisso. Julio Cruz, on the other hand, is expected to be safe as his agent is in Milan to negotiate a new deal for his client.
Villarreal and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on Argentinean defender Burdisso and, although his agent claims he will stay, it seems likely that he will leave.
Materazzi seems set for a return to the Premier League 10 years after leaving Everton for Inter. Manchester City and Spurs seem keen on the Italian stopper while his agent Claudio Vigorelli has admitted that the defender could leave the club during the transfer window.
Crespo is also set to be shipped out. The hitman has been wasting away down on the Inter bench and he is desperate for some regular football. As for Dacourt, he is likely to remain in Italy. Bologna and Serie B side Parma are reportedly interested in the midfielder. Dacourt has been left to rot by Mourinho and he could be the first to leave.
What's for certain is that the coach wants to cut down his squad to around 20-21 players maximum, and the changes are likely to come sooner rather than later. |
