Lippi Won't Take Chelsea Job
The Blues were runners-up in the Champions League, Premier League and Carling Cup this season, but sacked Avram Grant last week due to the overall failure to win a trophy.
A much-publicised hunt to find a replacement for the Israeli has now begun in earnest and some of the world's most successful managers have been linked with the job at Stamford Bridge, with the current search being billed as the most important in the Roman Abramovich era.
Lippi, however, who won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, insisted that he is not interested in the role and has been quick to withdraw himself from the running, reports Football Italia.
“No, no, no. I will not be Chelsea's trainer,” replied Lippi when asked about the position by The Sun.
“It is absolutely fundamental that a coach speaks with his players and I cannot, because I do not speak English.”
The 60-year-old tactician has been on a sabbatical since leaving Italy following their victory in Berlin two years ago, but is now rumoured to be keen on a return to the game.
Aside from famously winning the World Cup, Lippi led Juventus to five Serie A titles and four Champions League finals, winning the event in 1996.
Chelsea are reported to have drawn up a shortlist of potential candidates to replace Grant, with Frank Rijkaard, Didier Deschamps, Mark Hughes and Roberto Mancini all mentioned.
Assistant manager Henk ten Cate, who was initially ensured by Chief Executive Peter Kenyon that his future at the club was safe following Grant’s sacking, was also removed by the Chelsea hierarchy this afternoon.
